Cake creators take note, The Great MK Bake Off is set to stir up competition among ambitious local bakers this month.
The Great MK Bake Off is a cake baking competition open to all age groups which will take place at Stony Stratford Cricket Club on Sunday, September 22.
The event forms part of the run-up to Oxfam’s month-long music festival Oxjam, which sees volunteers organise hundreds of ‘takeovers’ across the country to raise awareness and funds for Oxfam.
Home-bakers keen to give Mary Berry a run for her money have a choice of entering their tasty treats into the Showstopper Challenge and/or the Signature Bake.
The Showstopper Challenge is all about looks and cakes will be judged solely on their appearance, originality, creativity, finish and skill – but the cake and decoration must be edible.
The ‘icing on the cake’ is that an auction selling entries into this category off will raise additional funds for Oxfam.
The Signature Bake is all about taste – entrants will be judged on texture, the bake, overall taste, appearance and originality of flavour.
Entry for each category is £5 and there will be prizes for the top three entrants in each category.
No baking will be carried out at the event so leave those wooden spoons at home – participants are asked to bring their entry and display it on their allotted table space
Set up for entrants will take place between midday and 1pm, while the main event will begin at 1pm.
Judging and other activities – including a ‘decorate a cupcake’ competition, a summer sports day, tombola, the draw for the Oxjam MK Summer raffle and plenty of opportunities to purchase refreshments – will continue until 4pm.
Oxjam MK Summer Raffle tickets can be purchased on the day or in the Stony Stratford Oxfam shop.
To enter the Bake Off, entrants must complete an application form by Friday, September 13.
