The Volunteer Centre, MK provides an essential service to local not for profit organisations in recruiting volunteers. This week it focuses on the ExtraCare Charitable Trust at Shenley.

ExtraCare’s mission is to give older people the time of their lives. In a safe, secure housing environment, they will promote a positive image of ageing and encourage healthy active lifestyles based on the imagination and ambitions of the residents, staff and volunteers.

> Volunteer – Bar area

ExtraCare is currently looking to expand its team of enthusiastic volunteers by recruiting for patient, friendly, trustworthy, honest, reliable individuals with a mature attitude who are needed to support staff with tasks in the bar area at the village.

Working in consultation with staff, the volunteer co-ordinator and manager, specific duties may include: serving drinks to residents, clearing tables, washing up, keeping the bar area clean; ordering and rotating stock, using the till etc. Those in this role will also need to be able to work as part of a team, observe standard procedures, general health & safety and rules of conduct, participate in support/information meetings and one-to-one supervision meetings and attend training/workshops relevant to the role.

Bar assistants are needed Monday - Sunday between 3pm - 10pm. Days can be flexible to suit. Previous experience of bar work would be an advantage.

> Volunteer Shop Assistant/Shopper

This organisation currently requires the support of a volunteer to help in the village shop and obtain small items of shopping for residents.

Duties may include: receiving and unpacking goods, stock rotation and ordering stock, stocking shelves, displaying goods and operating the till. The volunteer will need to be pleasant, have a friendly personality, be patient with a mature attitude, and be trustworthy, honest and reliable.

The volunteer will need to be able to work as part of a team and have retail work or customer focussed experience. The shop is open from 10am-6pm and volunteers would need to commit to a minimum of four hours per month.

For all of the above roles volunteers need to be 18 and over, provide a character reference and be willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
