An application for a new ‘gentleman’s club’ in the heart of Central Milton Keynes has been granted planning permission by Milton Keynes Council’s development control panel – despite fierce opposition from nearby businesses.
The application to change the use of the vacant CBX building premises at 488 Midsummer Boulevard from office space to a gentleman’s club – including a sex cinema and shop – was submitted by Richard Winterbottom, the former owner of the Phoenix Club at the Leisure Plaza.
That premises recently closed to make way for a new Morrisons supermarket currently being built at the site, but the city centre will soon have a new sex establishment a short distance away after the development control panel voted in favour of the application. It had already been given licensing permission.
Councillor Mick Legg was the chairman of the panel and said the decision had to be made based on planning laws, rather than objections on the basis of morality.
Nearby businesses including Holiday Inn and the Home Retail Group objected to the application.
The club will boast full nudity and a bar that opens until 4.30am.
