A man was hospitalised with serious injuries after being attacked by a group of men in Fishermead.
The 37-year-old suffered head and hand injuries, and is being treated at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he remains in a stable condition.
He had been asked for a cigarette before being assaulted while out walking in Gurnards Avenue and Pencarrow Place between 1am and 1.50am yesterday.
The victim attended a house nearby and was then taken to Milton Keynes Hospital by ambulance.
Det Sgt Luke Grove said: “If anyone was in the area of the offence in the early hours of today and saw anything suspicious, please call police and speak to an officer as you may have information which could assist the investigation.”
The offender who approached him was 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins, and is believed to be Somalian.
