A hundred hens went off to happy new homes on Saturday, when the British Hen Welfare Trust opened its new Hen Collection site in North Crawley, near Newport Pagnell.

The pop-up re-homing location was made possible thanks to local hen keepers and new BHWT Milton Keynes co-ordinators Janice Spokes and Sonia Hough.

Since its launch in 2005, the British Hen Welfare Trust has re-homed over 485,000 ex-battery hens from over 30 pop-up locations run by volunteers across the UK.
Janice said: “People often think of hens as just farmyard animals, but they are so much more than that. You don’t realise how loving they can be.

“Be warned – keeping ex-bats is very addictive.”

There will be another re-homing event in North Crawley on November 28. If you would like to adopt some hens, call Hen Central on 01884 860084 or email hens@bhwt.org.uk
