A new community-based service for musculoskeletal (MSK) and pain management services has been started in Milton Keynes.
GPs and specialist musculoskeletal and pain clinicians are working together to enable more patients to receive care closer to home, avoiding the need for some patients to travel to hospital.
Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group (MKCCG), which oversees healthcare across the city, also claims that the patients will benefit from shorter waiting times to get care and see consultants.
Dr Nicola Smith, GP chair of MKCCG, said, “We are very pleased to announce these new MSK services for patients in Milton Keynes. These integrated services will care for patients who require an opinion or treatment from a specialist MSK or Pain Clinician, but may not require surgery or specialist services that can only be provided in a hospital setting.
“We are working hard to bring healthcare services closer to home and reduce pressure on Milton Keynes Hospital, while improving effectiveness and patients’ experience of the healthcare services across Milton Keynes.”
