This year is the 30th Anniversary of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and the 5th Anniversary of the Milton Keynes fund raising branch – so it’s party time all round.

The working dogs and puppies socialised in Milton Keynes benefit from the kindness and generosity of the public and local businesses. At present in Milton Keynes there are five working dogs, two brood bitches and a variety of puppies.

The charity often provide speeches and demonstrations to school groups and clubs and try to keep their website up to date with the Puppies progress so that people can see how they are getting on.

At Christmas, the donations made and raffle tickets bought went towards the cost of sponsoring a puppy which will be socialised in the area. The puppy will be named in memory of the group secretary Paul Nivan who died suddenly.

Recently, one of the puppies Clive was selected to go to Crufts dog show to man the Hearing Dogs stand to demonstrate his training and give lots of cuddles to children.

This year Hearing Dogs are building on the success of the pilot project to supply assistance dogs to families with young deaf children. The dogs have appeared on National TV, demonstrating how they wake up their young charges, fetch them when Mum calls or alert them to a Fire Alarm. But the greatest effect is the improvement in the child’s self confidence and independence.

So here is the big thank you from the charity.

To all who have bought dog beds, donated cash or bought raffle tickets, to all the businesses that have allowed the charity to use their glass lifts to acclimatise the puppies, have let them stand on station platforms while the train empties, donated prizes for the summer ball raffle – thank you.

Please feel free to join the charity for their summer ball in Queensway, Bletchley on May 19. Great food, live dance band, fantastic raffle prizes including a day at Woburn Golf course, ski lessons for two and a weekend at Silverstone race track (all further donations would be gratefully received). Please contact Peggy on 01908 270581 for ticket availability and join them for the celebrations.
