The city’s first ever lesbian, gay and transgender Wedding Fayre is to be held this month.
All the stallholders at the Jury’s Inn venue have been chosen for their “sympathetic and considerate” attitudes towards the LGBTQ community.
Organiser Jo Green said: “When a gay couple looks for venues and suppliers for their wedding, often there is an uncomfortable moment when the shop owner or assistant has realised that maybe the two same sex people standing in front of them are a couple.
“Yet true equality of marriage should be for every couple to be able to celebrate the unity of their personal partnership, without stigma, restriction, fear or retribution.”
Jo and her partner Tam have heard disappointing stories from LGBTQ friends who struggled to get the wedding day of their dreams.
The Wedding Fayre, to be held on Sunday, October 20, is expected to be a hit with couples all over the country.
“All they want, for their special day, is to be treated with the same reverence as any heterosexual couple,” said Jo.
All proceeds will go towards the funding of next summer’s MKPride day.
