A QUICK-thinking driver whose double-decker bus caught fire on a dual carriageway in Central Milton Keynes on Thursday was able to pull over, evacuate the passengers and bring it under control with an extinguisher.
Firefighters from Great Holm Fire Station were called to the incident in Portway, near North Grafton roundabout, shortly before 2.30pm.
They used a hose reel to cool down the bus and a thermal imaging camera to look for hot-spots.
Watch Manager Lee Bloom said: “The fire broke out in the engine compartment at the rear of the bus and smoke was starting to come up through the seats.
“The driver coped extremely well by seeing his passengers safely off the bus and preventing the fire from spreading.”
Most of the passengers left the scene straight away. Firefighters were at the incident for about half an hour.
