Two members of the Territorial Army were among those to receive medals in honour of a tour of duty of Afghanistan.

Medals were presented to 21 members of 7th Battalion the Rifles at a lunch reception in London.

They included Lieutentant Paul Franklin, 32, who lives in Milton Keynes and has been inthe TA for more than five years.

Paul, who works for Mercedez Benz Group, said: “While in Theatre 4 Rifles, the Regular Battalion, made use of my civilian skills and had me asssit on a number of small building and relocation projects which was an excellent use of my expertise and something I really enjoyed.”

Rifleman Andrew Ahn, 28, of Olney, has been in the TA ten years and was on his first tour. The medals were presented by Major General Sandy Storrie, Senior Army Directing Staff Officer at the Royal College of Defence Studies and the Rifles Colonel for Greater London. He welcomed the soldiers back from their six-month tour of Helmand Province and thanked them for the ‘fantastic job they had done’.

He also thanked their employers and in particular all the families. He said: “You have all done a marvellous job but could not have done so without the support of your families.”
