On Friday 14 intrepid cyclists set off from Whitehaven in Cumbria to cycle the Coast To Coast (C2C) route to Tynemouth, Northumberland.

The route, which is 140 miles long takes the Hospice team over the fells of Cumbria and the hilly North Pennines.

The ‘Willen C2C Wheelers’ are aiming to raise £15,000 for Willen Hospice to enable them to purchase Syringe Drivers for their patients. Syringe Drivers are battery powered and portable enabling the patient to be as mobile as normal and administers the required drugs for the patient needed to control their symptoms.

Willen Hospice Trustee, Richard Willis said “Our team will be supported by a back-up driver and we estimate the route will take us three days to complete. Those taking part include Willen Hospice Chief Executive Paul Hinson, Trustee Pam Duggan and Campaign 30 member Rob Gilbert. Other riders include supporters from HSBC and the local areas of Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands. Please dig deep and support our team who will be combating hills and changeable weather over the three gruelling days”.
