THE pilot of a hot air balloon has been praised after he staged a dramatic landing in an empty supermarket car park.
Angela Kennedy, Bletchley and Fenny Stratford councillor, was one of the first on the scene on Sunday and described the sight of the balloon coming across Fenny Stratford,Aylesbury Street and past the Fenny Stratford to Bedford railway line.
She said: “My admiration and praise goes to the skill of the pilot who managed to land safely without any apparent injury to any of the passengers. My concern however is with what could have happened.
“The balloon was flying low over both a heavily populated residential and industrial area as well as the busy Watling Street or Saxon Street, and although close to the Bedford-Bletchley railway line what would have happened if the balloon had continued on to the main London line?
“I recognise that these pleasure flights are fun and that to a certain extent the balloon is at the mercy of the wind at different altitudes but would request any operator to avoid flying so close to a builtup area in future.”
None of the passengers in the balloon were injured during the incident.
