A HUSBAND and wife team put on their walking boots on Sunday for the Chilterns Three Peaks Challenge.

David and Cathy Atkinson from Milton Keynes took on the challenge together to raise money for Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care.

Walkers were asked to take on the five, nine or 18 mile route in the countryside of the Chilterns Ridgeway with the couple taking on the 18-mile challenge for the third year running.

The entire route saw entrants scaling the peaks of Whiteleaf Cross, Coombe Hill and Ivinghoe Beacon.

Cathy said: “I have helped the charity as a volunteer in the past, and my daughter works for IRGH as a fundraiser, so I know what a good cause it is.

“The Chilterns Three Peaks Challenge is a really enjoyable day out, with some spectacular views. The sense of achievement as you conquer the last peak, Ivinghoe Beacon, is exhilarating.”

Last year’s challenge raised an impressive £100,000 to help fund Iain Rennie nurses and the newly merged charity is hoping to do even better when they work out the final total for this year.

If every entrant raised £150 it could pay for a team of nurses, round the clock for a whole year.
