A single mum who lives like a “footballer’s wife” while claiming benefits and being £5,000 in debt will feature in a BBC documentary tonight.

Charlotte, from Milton Keynes, blames a celebrity culture for her “wanting it all”.

Speaking on tonight’s Britain’s Spending Secrets, Charlotte said: “Just because I’m on benefits, why shouldn’t I have the nicer things in life?

“It has got me into financial difficulty obviously but at the same time I now own what I dreamed of owning, which is a luxury fridge freezer.”

The mother-of-two refuses to stop splashing out on brand names and uses her weekly allowance to buy high-end furnishings.

She was left in £500 of arrears after using a company offering hire purchase with huge interest rates of up to 90 per cent to buy a TV, washing machine, cooker, fridge freezer and sofa.

Charlotte was forced to return the items when she was faced with eviction.
