A campaigning mum who dived in with a quest to secure a water play area for Milton Keynes is on her way to raising £500,000 for the facility.
Emma Young, 36, joined forces with her friend Amanda Perkins last month, setting up a Facebook page with support flooding for the idea. The page gained 5,000 ‘likes’ overnight has now exceeded 7,000 supporters for a ‘Splash ‘n’ Play MK’ project.
Funds permitting, it’s proposed the park will open all year round with covers used in the winter months.
Emma said: “We are looking at a water play area different to the one in Leighton Buzzard which will have sensory lights and a garden.
“The ideas we get will be passed over to MK College and we are hoping we can get an urban developer into work with them on designing it.”
They have signed the Parks Trust and Milton Keynes Play Association up as partners.
Briony Serginson, head of public engagement at The Parks Trust, said: “We’re looking at suitable park locations and believe if the campaign’s fundraising is successful that we could add a waterpark into the long term plans for Willen Lake South.”
It’s hoped Splash ‘n’ Play MK will open in spring 2015.
