CHILDREN whose lives have been saved by hospital’s neonatal unit were guests of honour at a Little Lives Appeal celebration party.
The appeal, backed by the Citizen, reached its £250,000 target last month after five years of fundraising.
The money has paid for three new high dependency cots, new equipment and better facilities for parents.
Last week the grateful neonatal team gathered at the hospital restaurant to say a formal thank you to everybody who helped raise money.
They invited their ‘star’ babies – tots who were born exceptionally premature or sick and who would certainly have died without the unit.
Now robust toddlers, the children all had special hugs from unit manager Glenda Deacon, administrator Sue Allen and sister June Mason.
“We always remember the names, even years later,” said Glenda, who is retiring shortly after five years of fundraising.
