Newport and Olney Lions Club saw special needs gymnastics group SNUGS off for the Special Olympic Summer Games held in Bath over the weekend.

After raising £1,500 for the SNUGS’ kit via a charity performance from Rock Chorus in March, the Lions Club played a significant role in enabling the gymnastics troop to participate in the international event.

Over 1,700 athletes took part, with the Milton Keynes gymnasts setting off for the games confidently, bearing the Lions logo on their fleeces, and winning a total of 32 medals including seven gold, 20 silver and five bronze.

The Lions Club, part of the International Association of Lions Clubs, is a worldwide organisation which aims to meet the needs of local, national and international communities.
