Litter pickers protect parks

The ‘Big Litter Pick’ has squashed litter bugs.

The litter picking event saw a total of 47 bags of rubbish collected by a band of willing volunteers.

Hosted at Willen Lake, Furzton Lake and Caldecott Lake, the Parks Trust event was organised as part of its drive to encourage residents to care for their parks.

With a total 9,360 bags of rubbish discarded in local parks each year, the Parks Trust, which takes great pride in keeping Milton Keynes’ parks safe and great places to visit, is increasingly concerned about the damage litter is having on the beauty of the parks, as well as the wildlife that inhabits them.

To raise awareness the Parks Trust has launched a campaign to get park visitors to show their love for the environment by taking their rubbish home.

The Trust is also asking people to sign an online pledge; see details at www.theparkstrust.com.
