A 102-year-old woman is one of many elderly people in the city managing to keep their independence thanks to the PlusBus transport system.

Nora Chambers is one of the group’s most loyal customers, using the service for 20 years, and said getting on board the PlusBus helps her stay active and independent.

She found out about it through a work colleague of her daughter, Valerie Allen, who described her mother as ‘furiously independent.’

Nora said: “Having the use of the PlusBus gets me out and about. I meet new people and have made some great friends over the years.

“It makes a huge difference to my life and I get to go around Milton Keynes and visit places that I haven’t seen before”

PlusBus Driver John Scott said: “Nora is testimony to the idea that staying mobile keeps you young in body and spirit.

“I was driving her home last week and she informed me she plans to see the Welsh National Opera production of the La Traviata at MK theatre next year, a life long favourite of hers.”
