Vintage biker John Wallis set out on a 4,000-mile journey from Milton Keynes Museum this week - on a vehicle that his dad bought for 10 shillings in 1961.

The 65-year-old from Blakelands will be riding from his Brough Superior MR 403 which has just celebrated its 90th birthday. The journey will take 3-4 weeks, taking him around the entire British coast.

Mr Wallis will be paying for all petrol, food and accommodation, and hopes to raise £4,000 for Comic Relief.

He said: “For most of my childhood the only transport we had was a motorcycle and sidecar so I suppose I was always going to get into bikes.

“I like to celebrate significant anniversaries and the ability to ride a bike of that age seems incredible and one that the maker, George Brough, would not have envisaged. It is my 65th as well and so the two anniversaries complement each other I think. It would have been good to do it in 10 years’ time when it will be a ton but I can’t wait that long.”
