Admission date for primary school applications approaches

PARENTS are being reminded to submit their children’s primary school applications by next Tuesday – or risk missing out on their preferred school.

Milton Keynes Council has issued the reminder ahead of the February 15 deadline for applications for places for September 2013.

There are three ways that parents and carers can complete and return an application form this year.

Firstly, they can complete an online application at www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

This must be submitted by 5pm on Tuesday, January 15. There is a simple process to follow and users will receive an immediate email acknowledgement to confirm their application has been received.

Another benefit of the online system is that parents will get confirmation of their place in advance of those who use the paper system.

Parents can benefit from being able to retrieve and amend their application right up to the deadline.

Secondly, parents and carers can take a hard copy application into their child’s current or local infant, junior or primary school no later than 3pm on the same date.

Finally, an application can be posted or hand delivered to the School Admissions Team at Milton Keynes Council, Saxon Court, 502 Avebury Boulevard, MK9 3HS. This must be received at Reception by 5pm on the same Tuesday.

For children attending a school outside Milton Keynes or an independent school, parents and carers should return their form to the School Admissions Team at the address above.

Any applications received between January 16 and April 30 will be processed during the second round with notification in early June 2013.

A council spokesman said: “Please be aware that submitting a late application may affect the offer of a school place as a number of schools and academies will be full at the end of the first round.

“So far the council has received more than three-quarters of the estimated applications.

“We are expecting around 600 more applications. With the closing date in sight, parents are urged to log on and apply online or take their completed form to their school as soon as possible.”
