Diving headfirst into a new challenege, cadets from Bletchley Park’s Air Training made a splash into the water, got on their bike, and even jumped into a boat to raise money.

It was all for a special ‘quadrathlon’ challenge at Bletchley Leisure Centre on Saturday when, in small groups, the cadets swam 10km, rowed 25km, cycled 152km and ran 84km.

Using sports equipment donated by the leisure centre and sponsored by Mirus IT, the Cadets were challenged to raise donations for the Squadron to put towards new IT equipment and help fund events later in the year, all while improving their own personal fitness in time for an upcoming regional athletics competition.

Sarah Davies, Hertsmere Leisure area manager, said: “Milton Keynes Leisure are proud to be able to support the Cadets in this gruelling challenge, the squadron is working hard to provide a variety of exciting activities for its members and we are pleased to be able to offer such an opportunity at a local facility, whilst also helping them raise money to continue this work.”

The Cadets recorded how fast they were completing their parts of the challenge to encourage friendly competition amongst themselves and the Squadrons Civilian Committee donated chocolate eggs to the winner of each discipline.

Flt Lt Paul Weston, the Officer Commanding of 2366 Squadron, said: “Events like this are valuable in getting ourselves known in the local community while showing teenagers that fitness can be fun.

“As we are a self funded charity the £1,000 we hope to raise from the Quadathlon will provide all sorts of equipment to help us make a positive difference in our Cadets lives.

Flt Sgt Flanagan, Cpl Khan and Cdt Collins won the fastest times awards while Cpl Payne was awarded a prize for raising the most funds.

The Air Cadets meet at Bletchley Park every Monday and Wednesday from 7pm to 9.30pm, and is open to all children aged 13-17.
