Apprentice butcher is top of the chops

A young butcher is proving she is a cut above the rest after impressing judges enough to win Butcher’s Apprentice of the Year.

Harriet Clutsom, 24, surpassed an unusually high number of nominees nationwide with her coursework and practical skills.

The prestigious award was presented by HRH The Princess Royal at a gala lunch in London.

Having been on an apprenticeship with Woburn Country Foods Butchers for the last 12 months and working on the butcher’s counter at Frosts Garden Centre in Woburn Sands, Harriet has impressed her mentors and customers.

James Frost, managing director of Frosts, said: “It is great to have someone as young and skilled as Harriet to be recognised for her talents.”

Helen Ralley Davies, director of Woburn Country Foods, added: “We are not surprised that Harriet won as she works with great skill and efficiency.

“She is well liked by customers as she has such a friendly and polite manner, and is a great asset to our business.”
