Catch The Bus Week started today and Arriva is offering free tickets to passnengers signing up for its app.

Iain Stewart, MP for Milton Keynes South and Stuart Winston, Depot Traffic Manager from Arriva buses, celebrated a national drive towards using public transport this week by wearing giant green ‘Catch The Bus Week’ hands to let new and existing passengers know they could hop on board for free.

Catch The Bus Week, which runs until Sunday, is an industry-wide initiative being supported by sustainable transport group Greener Journeys, which urges people to try using the bus instead of their car for certain journeys.

To do its bit to boost the initiative Arriva is offering free day saver mobile phone tickets to anyone who registers for its m-ticket app during Catch the Bus Week; allowing more people than even before the chance to see for themselves just how much they could benefit from bus travel.

Mr Winston said: “We really wanted to show just how easy and affordable getting the bus can be, particularly with the use of our m-ticket. We’re very grateful that Mr Stewart chose to give us a helping hand to spread the word around Milton Keynes.

“By giving residents free m-tickets we hope many more people will start to recognise just why they should give the bus a go.”

Backing the cause, Iain Stewart stated: “This is a great initiative and I am delighted to be helping. People are choosing to travel more and more by public transport. Schemes such as ‘Catch the Bus Week’ will further encourage people to consider using buses for certain journeys.”

On Friday, May 2, at 11am, Mark Lancaster, MP for Milton Keynes North, will also be showing his support to by holding a special surgery with local constituents in order to further help promote the many benefits of bus travel amongst the community.

Mark Lancaster MP will be joined by Paul Adcock, Area Managing Director for Arriva, at St Stephens Drive near Bolbeck Park as they address the matter of local transport solutions and discuss the financial, environmental and community bonuses that increased bus usage can provide.
