A man in full time employment received a 12 month Community Order at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court on Friday after falsely claiming he was a student and not working.

Issa Mohammed Ali, 26, of Ulyett Place, Oldbrook was sentenced to a 12 month Community Order with 200 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £250.00 costs .

He pleaded guilty to five counts of dishonestly making false statements under the Fraud Act 2006 and Social Security legislation.

He had attempted to get a discount on his Council Tax by claiming that he was a full-time student and had produced false letters allegedly from Milton Keynes College.

Further investigations found he was also claiming Jobseekers Allowance, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit when in fact he worked full-time for a plumbing company and not entitled to these benefits.

The attempted fraud was spotted by a council employee, and on checking, it was found that he was working under a different spelling of his name and false documents.

He was overpaid £4720.70 which he has already started repaying.
