A 74-year-old man from Great Brickhill, newly nicknamed the ‘Biceps of Bucks’, put on an amazing performance in ITV’s new primetime game show.

Henry Clark, who is a world champion powerlifter and has been weight training for over 50 years, showed off his skills on Amazing Greys’ first show aired on April 12.

The show, which puts Britain’s golden oldies with world records up against young competitors, saw Henry squat half his bodyweight 20 times, beating his 26-year-old opponent Sal hands down.

This was despite Sal boasting he was “younger, more pumped for it” and who was “going to take him down” before losing 20-16.

Henry, who was the first contestant to kick-start the new series, lifted 38 kilos in weight in front of a packed-out studio last month.

He said: “I hadn’t done any television work before, but I wasn’t nervous about being on the show. It sounded like fun and I was very lucky because I was really well looked after.

“I knew I had a good chance of winning because after all these years you are used to competitions, but you need to make it fun. It gives you a bit of a buzz to know that you are not quite as decrepit as some people might think. Although the Amazing Greys were long in the tooth, there were some super competitors there and the great thing was we all seemed to gel really well. It was really strange watching it back. You can’t help but think, do I really look like that?”

He may be past retirement age, but Henry has no intention of slowing down. In fact, he recently travelled to Staffordshire to take part in a competition and ended up beating his previous world record.

The weightlifter, who orginally took up the sport to ‘impress the ladies’, has been married to wife Tina for 53 years and has two children, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He added: “My wife has been really supportive and she really enjoyed watching the show being filmed. A few people have said to me that they saw me on television, but I’m not quite dishing out the autographs just yet.”
