Blue badge fraud gets a £500 fine
Milton Keynes Council
A woman has been fined more than £500 for persistently using a disabled parking bay at thecentre:mk despite being able-bodied.
Samantha Wells, from Tattenhoe, was caught using a blue badge several times, Milton Keynes Magistrates heard on Friday.
Ms Wells, 46, isn’t disabled and wasn’t transporting a disabled passenger either.
She was fined £350 and ordered to pay costs of £234.40, after admitting to using disabled parking bays in Central Milton Keynes and displaying a badge which wasn’t hers.
A Milton Keynes Council Corporate Anti-Fraud Team spokesman said: “These bays are provided for the exclusive use of disabled people, and when they are taken by those who are able-bodied it denies a disabled person the chance to park there, and may be a criminal offence.
“We take this seriously and will actively pursue those who abuse the scheme.”
