Despite the race normally being restricted to women, Barney Harwood ‘creped’ into the competition in Olney this morning.

Speaking to the BBC before the race, Mr Harwood said: “I’ve never taken part in a pancake race before so I’m looking forward to it, as long as I get to eat the pancake at the end.”

Normally runners must be female and have lived in the town for three months, but instead Mr Harwood dressed in a blonde wig and apron to run for a feature on the programme.

The Olney Pancake Race dates back to 1445.
