Boundary draft cuts town in two
Tickford Bridge, Newport Pagnell
PLANS by the Boundary Commission to divide Newport Pagnell between Hanslope and Giffard Park have been slammed by ward councillor Andy Maric.
The draft plan, released on Tuesday, suggests splitting Newport Pagnell, already segregated into North and South, among its surrounding parishes.
Mr Maric said: “We propose to adopt the council’s Newport Pagnell North and Hanslope ward with the amendment that the Oakridge Park development is not included.
“While there is clearly considerable support for retaining Newport Pagnell in a single ward, to do so would result in poor electoral equality.”
Mr Maric, councillor for Newport Pangell South, says the town is an entity within itself and should be treated as such.
“It strikes me that this whole draft lacks in common sense,” he said. “Newport Pagnell is a town full of its own history, and thrives in its own identity – very much like Olney and Stony Stratford.
“We have nothing against Giffard Park and Hanslope, but Newport Pagnell should be treated as an entity in itself.
“People have until Monday, March 18, to submit their responses to the review, and I urge everyone in Newport Pagnell to do so.”
Max Caller, chairman of the Commission, said: “We are publishing proposals for a new pattern of wards across Milton Keynes and we are keen to hear what local people think of the recommendations.
“Over the next eight weeks, we are asking local people to tell us if they agree with the proposals or if not, how they can be improved.”
