BREAKING: Milton Keynes Mayor resigns after sexual offences scandal




The Mayor of Milton Keynes has resigned after it was revealed he personally vouched for the taxi licence application of a man who had been convicted of a string of sexual offences.

Liberal Democrat Subhan Shafiq quit his post today, whilst fellow councillors Stuart Burke and Gladstone McKenzie have left their roles on the licensing committee.

The shock announcement came at a press conference at the city hall this afternoon, attended by chief executive Carole Mills, and Leader of the Council Pete Marland.
