Brothels could flourish under Tory planning laws, says MP Starkey
She claims under opposition plans, companies could change use without approval
More brothels could open up in the city if the Tories take power, claims MP for Milton Keynes South West Dr Phyllis Starkey.
She says under recently unveiled planning policies Conservatives intend allowing change of use of properties without the need for planning permission.
Dr Starkey said: "Local Conservatives claim to be shocked there is a brothel in Bletchley.
"However, thanks to the Conservatives' planning paper even more brothels could turn up in our city."
The comment follows the Citizen's uncovering of a brothel in Queensway masquerading as a massage parlour, and a Tory councillor's concern it could not legally be shut down.
Dr Starkey claims the Conservative proposals could mean shops could be converted to take-aways, bookmakers, massage parlours or sex shops without residents or the council having the opportunity to object.
She fears homes could be converted to HiMOs – houses in multiple occupation – also without planning permission.
Local shopping centres and neighbourhoods could not be protected, she added.
