City businesses are invited to a special Open University Business School Breakfast Briefing
With Milton Keynes being selected as one of the venues for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the briefing will focus on sport as an essential component to the economic development strategy for the city.
Presented by Dr Leslie Budd, Reader in Social Enterprise at The Open University, Sports as the local economic game changer will introduce business managers to the complex, and often not immediate, socio-economic benefits of sport in Milton Keynes – the UK’s fastest growing sub-region.
Dr Budd said: “As businesses, we have a tendency to focus on the direct monetary benefits rather than the overall contribution of sports. It’s important to focus on the interactions between infrastructure, events and local participation to understand how sports can have a wider-reaching impact through social inclusion of marginal communities and enhancement overall of socio-economic well-being.”
Joining the Breakfast Briefing will be John Cove, Chief Executive of the MK Dons Sport and Education Trust.
Breakfast will be provided to attendees from 8am. Places at the next Breakfast Briefing can be booked via email@example.com or visiting www.open.ac.uk/breakfast-briefings.
