Prime Minister David Cameron has given his backing to this newspaper’s campaign for a new A&E at Milton Keynes Hopsital.

The PM was in the city on Monday to meet apprentices at Mercedes Benz at the start of National Apprenticeship Week.

During a question and answer session, he told listeners the Government would not be making any cuts to the NHS.

And when questioned by the Citizen, Mr Cameron said the campaign, supported by city MPs Mark Lancaster and Iain Stewart, would be looked at closely.

He said: “Everyone knows that Milton Keynes has been a high growth town.

“This Government is committed to expand the NHS. Clearly you have to have an A&E that fits the town it serves.”

The current A&E unit was built in the 80s to cater for 20,000 patients. It now sees 73,000 every year.
