Cameron signals demise of growth body

Planning power will be passed down to local people, says Tory leader

Expansion driver Milton Keynes Partnership will be axed if the Tories take power, party leader David Cameron said on a visit to the city today.

He told the Citizen a Conservative government would do away with housing targets, growth quangos and regional planning strategies and "pass power down to the local council and local people."

He was speaking after delivering a major policy speech at the Open University outlining plans for a radical re-distribution of power.

He chose the OU for the occasion because it was a fine example of successful modernisation and "a fantastic innovation that has been copied in other parts of the world."
