Casino plan blocked

Councillors to reconsider Xscape project

Xscape's casino plan has suffered a major setback with Milton Keynes Council shelving a decision approving the scheme.

Councillors say a report to the planning committee understated the amount of parking needed and the impact the complex - which would include a hotel and shops - would have on other business in the recession-hit city centre.

They fear the authority might face a court challenge from protesting residents and have ordered a review of the project.

The council's Tory opposition group says the committee must also consider whether the scheme would conform with a tall-buildings policy currently being drawn up.
