A mythical maze could be the key to unlocking the imaginations of children in Milton Keynes as they take on a summer reading challenge.

It’s The Reading Agency’s 16th national challenge of its kind delivered by libraries all over the Milton Keynes Libraries, which aims to encouarge as many children as possible to read or have help reading six library books during their summer holidays.

The theme of mythical maze challenges children aged four to 11 years old to find their way around a labyrinth to introduce them to fantastical creatures from the world of legend and mythology, collecting stickers of each character along the way.

Youngsters will be encouraged to read six books during their summer break, plot their progress on a special poster and receive a medal and certificate on completion.

Cllr Sarah Betteley is encouraging all young people to sign up: “This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is really exciting and it’d be great to get as many young people signed up as possible.

“They’ll get a real sense of achievement at the end when they get to the end of the ‘Mythical Maze’ and collect their certificate.”

It is completely free to join and simple to sign up for; just come into any Milton Keynes library.

The challenge started on July 18 and closes on the September 14.
