City's high rate of alcohol crime revealed
Sobering statistics show city has high rate of alcohol-linked recorded crime
Drink triggers more crime in Milton Keynes than almost anywhere else in the South East.
Regional health chiefs say the city has the highest rate of alcohol-linked recorded crime after Slough, Reading, Southampton and Oxford.
The sobering statistic comes after MK club Oceana's chief executive Stephen Thomas told the Citizen of his fears cheap drink offers could make CMK a magnet for booze-crazed yobs.
A manifesto issued by NHS South Central following its Big Drink Debate says curbs on cheap drinks are among main reforms sought by the public.
Other aims include support for police in tackling drink-related crime and anti-social behaviour, advice on safe drinking, help for bosses to advise staff on alcohol and action to tackle alcohol-linked family breakdown.
NHS South Central public health director Prof John Newton said it was important people thought beyond Christmas and New Year parties and said how excessive drinking problems should be addressed.
"Despite the region being one of the safest in the country, there are many alcohol-related violent crimes each year and communities are reporting concerns about alcohol playing a part in anti-social behaviour."
