The Old Mother Redcaps vowed the people of Prague at the July Folklore Festival.

The Milton Keynes-based group, formed 33 years ago, performed dances from the Isle of Man and also garland dances.

Squire of the side Catherine Held said: “There was only one other group from the UK there. We felt privileged to represent our local area and our country at such as prestigious event.

“Old mother Redcaps. dances were warmly received and enthusiastically supported, both when performing as part of the programme and when taking part in the street parade.”

The later saw 45 groups of singers, musicians and dancers wending their way through the historic streets of Prague, said Catherine.

The Old Mother Redcaps. who delight in researching and performing ancient traditional dances, were given funding by the Milton Keynes Community Foundation towards the trip.

Thanking them Catherine said: “We have returned with renewed enthusiasm for learning and teaching traditional folk dance.”
