City urged to give its all during Food Bank’s Big Little Give week
BUSINESSES, schools and organisations all over the city are being urged to help MK Food Bank during its annual Big Little Give campaign next month.
The charity, which is backed by the Citizen, aims to collect tens of thousands of items of foodstuffs to distribute to hungry families.
The Citizen is kicking off the campaign by organising our own office collection, urging staff and visitors to bring in non-perishable food such as canned items, pasta, rice, cereals, sugar or long life milk between March 2 and March 10.
Other Big Little Give ideas include collections of spare change, sponsored events, coffee mornings, dress down days, or even fundraising fasts.
Prospective parliamentary MP Andrew Pakes has pledged to go without food on both Sundays during the campaign week.
“The team do an amazing job in difficult times to provide emergency help to families in need of food. And demand keeps growing,” he said.
Last year the food bank gave out 9,000 food parcels after experiencing a 70 per cent increase in demand over the previous two years.
