City firm lands £1m super-carrier contract

Navy flagships will sail with locally made machinery

The Royal Navy's massive new aircraft carriers wil be built with help from Bletchley firm Westfalia Separator Ltd.

The company will supply four 'lube oil separator packages' and four 'oil separator packages' for both the HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales.

The equipment is vital for lubricating the 65,000 tonne ships' massive engines.

A spokesman for the firm said it was pleased to have received the orders which recognised the depth of their engineering expertise and dedication to service.

"Everyone at Westfalia Separator Ltd, from the shop floor to the board room, is proud to be associated with the project," he said.

The 4bn ships will enter service in 2014 and 2016.

Local MP Phyllis Starkey welcomed the announcement.
