THE boss of a community nursery has been honoured for the services to special needs education.

Caroline Ward, who is the Nursery Head at the Little Oaks Community Nursery in Wavendon, has been named an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours.

Her achievement has been praised by chairman of Wavendon Parish Council, Councillor David Hopkins.

The parish council, working with the nursery, was responsible for facilitating the move from a small portacabin room attached to the village primary school to the village community centre. This enabled the Little Oaks Nursery to grow considerably in size and scope.

Mr Hopkins said: “Caroline’s award is an acknowledgement of the outstanding work she and her family have achieved over many years in community nursery education.

“Little Oaks is a real asset to the village of Wavendon and the community is rightly proud to be able to host this facility. We wish Caroline and her team well for 2013 and beyond.”

Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford was also names an MBE, while deputy chief executive of the Race Equality Foundation Jabeer Karim Butt was made an OBE for services to health equality and Jerry Roberts was made an MBE for his work at Bletchley Park during the Second World War.
