Council will strive to rescue Windmill Hill

THE troubled Windmill Hill golf course could be handed back to the council within the next month according to Councillor Peter Geary.

Answering questions at Wednesday night’s full council meeting, Mr Geary, cabinet member for Communities, Corporate Services and Transformation said that the administration was working every day to get the keys back to re-open the course in Bletchley.

In December, Windmill Hill owners Golf Course Management Limited went into liquidation and the course as closed, fuelling rumours that planning permission would be granted on the land to build a housing estate. Staff had already been called and were told they were being made redundant, though some were still keen on maintaining the facility in the event that it should re-open soon.

But speaking on Wednesday night, Mr Geary said he hopes to have the keys to the course within weeks.

Mr Geary said: “The council is doing everything we can to get the keys back from the administrator so we can get the golf course back up and running.

“It hasn’t been straight forward to say the least, but we hope to have it back open within the next month.”
