Council hits back at Tory 'rot' claim
Housing chief says local people are being fully consulted
A tory claim that empty council houses are being "left to rot" as many families desperately seek somewhere to live has been dismissed by city housing chief, Councillor Chris Williams.
Milton Keynes Council Loughton ward councillor Don Hoyle says he was among members who voted for the controversial demolition of Bramley Grange on the Lakes estate.
He says in a letter to the Citizen he supported the move because the council had already allowed them to become derelict. He claims Milton Keynes North housing office had also been in danger of demolition but was eventually spared and taken over by the parish council.
He said: "There are many properties being deliberately left to rot: they ought to be registered and listed to see exactly what and where they are."
Mr Williams said he did "not agree" with Mr Hoyle on the council's handling of Bramley Grange. The site "very likely to become new council housing."
Local people were being fully consulted and nothing would be built there without their approval.
He said the city council had acted in partnership with the parish council over the eventual use of the housing office and was amazed Mr Hoyle thought the council did not know how many homes it had available for let.
He said: "There is a complete detailed list of all our properties.
