D-Day looms over plans for mental health centre
The White Hart Pub
CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a mental health centre in Bletchley will be heard before a planning committee on Thursday night.
If approved, the plans will see the former site of the White Hart pub, which was destroyed by a fire, demolished with a 32-bed mental health centre built in its place.
West Bletchley Parish councillors are now urging residents to turn up to the meeting on Thursday night at Milton Keynes Council’s Civic Offices to voice their opinions on the much-maligned plans.
Councillor Elaine Wales, West Bletchley parish council vice- chairman, said: “Thursday is D-Day for the planning application. This meeting provides another really important step in the campaign to defeat this bad planning application.
“It is an inappropriate application. It is on the wrong site and it has caused widespread alarm in our community.”

MP for Milton Keynes South, Iain Stewart, has also publicly backed the West Bletchley Council plans to oppose the new structure and in December last year Mr Stewart raised the matter in two separate letters to West Bletchley Council and chief executive of Milton Keynes Council, David Hill, respectively.
Speaking in December, Mr Stewart said: “As an MP, my ability to intervene directly in planning matters is limited, However, I am happy to help support the parish council and local residents in any way that I can.”
Those opposing the plans have cited a number of reasons for their criticism of the application including fear of crime, the parking and traffic impact, the impact of design on locality and the fact it is weak on section 106 arrangements.
Elaine added: “I will be there on Thursday evening pushing for the council to oppose the application. This means challenging the recommendation from council officers. They have, in our view, got it wrong.
“I think they believe that any defeat for the application will be over-turned by the Government inspector on appeal. We must make the case and show that they are wrong.”
