Dear Mark, I have some very good news...
...but I'm afraid not for you
MP Mark Lancaster's eyes lit up when he got a letter from the Government's education department promising help for schools.
Minister for Schools and Learners Vernon Coaker wrote that "your local authority" had been selected to benefit from a special initiative - Building Schools for the Future - providing the opportunity to rebuild or renew every state secondary school in the country.
"We will be in touch with the authority in the near future to discuss the next steps," the letter concluded.
There was just a slight problem though. The letter was earmarked for MPs in "Buckinghamshire"and it's been a while since Milton Keynes was formally part of the county.
An apology followed from the minister's assistant private secretary.
Mr Lancaster said: "I think this shows just what a lack of interest the Labour Government continues to have in Milton Keynes. They haven't even noticed that we became a unitary authority years ago.
"I will, however, be writing to the Minister to ask him to explain why we are being excluded from this scheme as it is high time that Milton Keynes students' and parents got the fair funding that they deserve."
The Building Schools for the Future scheme involves more than 100 local authorities.
