Have your say

Spring has officially sprung and so now all our green-fingered readers can start preparing to dig deep and get their gardens up to competition standard.

That’s right, it’s that time of the year again as we look ahead to Milton Keynes Garden of the Year 2014, which is sponsored by Milton Keynes Council, Frosts Garden Centre and your favourite local newspaper, the MK Citizen.

So if you entered last year, but didn’t make the final, or you are a budding gardener who is thinking about entering, then what’s stopping you?

The categories for Milton Keynes Garden of the Year 2014 are:

> best school garden; best school seasonal container; best large front garden; best large back garden; best small front garden; and best small back garden.

There is also the chance to win best community garden, best housing association garden, best council tenant garden, best hanging basket or container, best allotment, best new comer and most floral frontage. And why not nominate your garden for the sustainability award, which is awarded to the entry that the judges felt showed the most awareness and commitment to sustainable living. Or if you think your skills are the cream of the crop, then have a go at winning Gardener of the Year.

This highly coveted award is given to the person who has made a most significant contribution to gardening within the area, according to the judges’ opinion. The award was first established to celebrate the opening of Frosts Garden Centre in Woburn Sands in 1946.

And, of course, there’s always the chance to win the award for overall Garden of the Year for Milton Keynes.

Remember to get in touch and let us know how you are planning to outdo the creativity of last year’s winners.

The team at the Citizen wish you the best of blooming luck in the competition, so get
