Dozens watch Josephine Cox open new library
SCORES of people flocked to the new look Woburn Sands library as it was officially opened by bestselling local author Josephine Cox.
Ms Cox signed copies of her new novel, as people poured through the doors at the library in the High Street.
The new library is the result of a new Partnership Agreement between Milton Keynes Council and Woburn Sands Town Council. The library is more accessible than the current library premises in Hardwick Road and is located in a prominent site on Woburn Sands High Street.
The new library incorporates the full range of services: a range of books, CDs, DVDs for children and adults and PCs and internet access for use by the public and a programme of special children’s activities have been arranged for the opening day.
The library is open for 22 hours a week, the same as previously.
The refurbishment of the new premises is being paid for by local housing developments through Section 106 funding to provide community facilities.
Councillor David Hopkins, Cabinet Member for libraries, and local ward councillor for the area, said: “This really was a fantastic re-launch of Woburn Sands library, which is a truly joint effort between the town council, Milton Keynes Council and local residents.
“We had dozens of people through the door – including many joining the library for the first time, as well as number of people who had lapsed, but felt inspired to renew their membership.”
