Drugs: ‘Don’t do what I am doing’

A DRUG-DEALING teenager shot to death on Fishermead had warned his young cousin 24 hours previously never to follow his example.
Mohammed Farah lectured the 16-year-old boy against selling cannabis for a “quick profit,” telling him it was a pathway he should not take, Luton Crown Court heard this week.
The evening after he handed out his advice 19-year-old Mohammed and his fellow Somalian friend Amin Ahmed Ismail, 18, both received fatal wounds to the head after a confrontation with a gang of men in an alleyway.
Prosecutor Ben Gumpert told the court that a dispute over ‘drug turf’ with rival dealers was the likely motive for the killings.
Three men – also of Somali origin – Fuad Awale, 25, of no fixed abode, Sharmake Abdulkadir, 22, of The Fleet, Springfield, and Yahya Harun, 22, of Fishermead Boulevard, are pleading not guilty to two charges of murder.
Abdulkadir has also been charged with possession of a firearm with intent.
The night before the killings Mohammed spoke to his cousin, then 16, in his bedroom.
The teenager told the court: “Mo had weed on him – cannabis. He brought it out. It was stinking out the room. He had 13 separate bags.
“He said he was going to sell it for a quick profit. He lectured me about not taking that pathway. He said, ‘Don’t do what I am doing.’”
The prosecution say Amin Awale was a drug dealer on the estate and he and Abdulkadir had travelled to Holland to collect a gun, returning two days before the shooting in May last year.
Police are not clear about who pulled the trigger, said Mr Gumpert.
“All three defendants were acting together when the two victims were shot,” he said.
“Whether it was Fuad Awale, Sharmake Abdulkadir, Yayar Harun or another of the group of five who actually fired the shots which killed the two victims is not of the first importance.
“The prosecution case is that all three defendants were part of a joint enterprise.”
The shots were fired from a Belgian automatic pistol, which was found nearby on July 1 last year and bore traces of DNA, which matched Sharmake Abdulkadir.
But during a prison visit Abdulkadir is alleged to have told his mother it was Awale who fired the gun.
Minutes before the killings it is alleged the defendants were seen at the entrance to the alley arguing with the two victims.
