Eh up! MP test drives the new VW e-up!

MP Iain Stewart was treated to a test drive in the new Volkswagen e-up! when he met staff and apprentices at the VW National Learning Centre in Milton Keynes.

The e-up! is Volkswagen’s first all-electric car. Mr Stewart said: “It is a great model, very smooth and quiet to drive. No doubt the apprentices will be working more and more on models like this in the future.”

Mr Stewart was taken on a tour of the site and introduced to apprentices who explained what the Volkswagen Group’s Advanced Apprenticeship Programme entails.

Mr Stewart added: “The structure of this apprenticeship is extremely impressive. I was very pleased to hear that on average 90per cent pass the programme with 89 per cent being offered employment on completion.”

He added: “For a long time young people have been told it is University or bust. But I believe that is not the right path for everyone. Apprenticeships, such as the one run by the Volkswagen Group and its brands, offer a fantastic start to a career and I hope over the coming years we see more emphasis on the importance of apprenticeships and other vocational qualifications.”

The Volkswagen Group’s National Learning Centre has been based in Milton Keynes since 2005. It is Volkswagen Group’s central learning hub for the whole of the UK. Every year it trains more than 740 apprentices from the Group’s retail networks and in addition offers professional training for staff across the country.
