Explore a new culture, donate books, win prizes

CREATIVE juices will be flowing in city schools thanks to the South African fruit industry’s latest national competition.

Children in years 5 and 6 are being invited to enter the Help a South African School competition – with the chance to win £2,000.

Youngsters are tasked with creating a collage related to a topic of South African culture – learning about South Africa while also helping less privileged children living in the country.

Illiteracy is a big problem in South Africa and only 20 per cent of schools have libraries so teachers and students desperately need resources.

To help, schools that enter this competition are also being encouraged to donate unwanted text books to South African schools.

Visit www.helpasouthafricanschool.co.uk to register to enter or donate.

The last date to register is Friday, March 1.
